Itinerary
Day 1 : Santa Cruz Island: Black Turtle Cove
Day 2 : Genovesa Island: El Barranco & Darwin Bay
At El Barranco, also known as Prince Philip’s Steps, you’ll ascend a steep cliff to witness palo santo forests teeming with red-footed boobies, Galapagos swallows, and short-eared owls. Later, explore Darwin Bay, a stunning white sand beach surrounded by mangroves, where Nazca boobies and swallow-tailed gulls nest. Along the shore, sea lions play in the waves, making for an incredible wildlife experience.
Day 3 : Santiago Island: Sullivan Bay & Rabida Island
Sullivan Bay offers a dramatic volcanic landscape, showcasing pahoehoe lava formations from recent eruptions. Walk across the hardened lava flows, observing the first signs of life in this stark environment. Later, visit Rabida Island, famous for its striking red sand beach and vibrant marine life. Snorkel in crystal-clear waters, spotting tropical fish, sea lions, and even white-tipped reef sharks. Birdwatchers will delight in spotting Darwin’s finches, flycatchers, and Galapagos hawks.
Day 4 : Santa Cruz Island: Charles Darwin Station & El Chato Reserve
At the Charles Darwin Research Station, observe giant tortoises of various ages and learn about conservation efforts to protect these iconic creatures. Later, explore El Chato Reserve, where tortoises roam freely in their natural habitat. The reserve is also home to Darwin’s finches, yellow warblers, and the elusive short-eared owl, providing a rich wildlife experience.
Day 5 : Santa Cruz Island: Dragon Hill & Bachas Beach
Hike to Dragon Hill, a critical nesting site for land iguanas, where you may also spot flamingos and pintail ducks in the surrounding lagoons. Later, visit Bachas Beach, a picturesque stretch of white sand ideal for swimming and snorkeling. This area is home to flamingos, hermit crabs, and nesting sea turtles, making it a prime location for nature lovers.
Day 6 : Floreana Island: Post Office Bay & Cormorant Point
At Post Office Bay, participate in a centuries-old mariner tradition by leaving a postcard in a wooden barrel for fellow travelers to deliver. Then, visit Cormorant Point, where a scenic trail leads to a flamingo-filled lagoon and two contrasting beaches—one with green olivine sand and another with pristine white coral. Snorkeling opportunities abound in the surrounding waters, rich with marine life.
Day 7 : Española Island: Suarez Point & Gardner Bay
Suarez Point is a birdwatcher’s paradise, home to blue-footed boobies, waved albatrosses, and a dramatic blowhole that shoots water high into the air. Later, relax at Gardner Bay, a breathtaking white sand beach filled with sea lions. Snorkel along the rocky coastline, where you may encounter reef sharks, rays, and colorful fish.
Day 8 : San Cristobal Island: Interpretation Center & Departure
End your journey at the Interpretation Center, where exhibits highlight the history, ecology, and conservation of the Galapagos Islands. Gain insight into the challenges of preserving this unique ecosystem before heading to the airport for your return flight to the mainland.
